EDGARD — The Rams are hosting KIPP Booker T. Washington this week, a game that doubles as senior night in Edgard.

West St. John High head coach Brandon Walters said his 6-2 WSJH squad has done a great job of staying focused and not looking past any opponents into the postseason.

“We’re fine, but we have to keep our focus this week with a short week, playing on a Thursday,” Walters said. “I don’t believe they will be looking ahead. They understand we treat each week like a one-week season. We just try to plan for that.”

Riverside vs. Country Day

The game was in hand early last week for the Rebels, who defeated Fisher 42-6 in Reserve, a formula Riverside fans would love to see repeated as RA looks to put together its first winning streak of 2017.

The Rebels (2-4) earned a Week 1 victory over Southern Lab before a tough schedule, open date and missed game because of a   hurricane produced an extended stretch without a victory.

That changed last week, but the Rebels’ opponent is tougher this Friday as Country Day visits Reserve.

Coach Chris Lachney said his message to the team after last week’s win was simple — put it behind you.

“It’s the same thing I have said to them after the loses,” Lachney said. “It’s time for us to come in, look at the film, learn from our mistakes, flush it and move on. Hopefully, this was the first win of a series that leads to where we want to ultimately be, which is in the Superdome (for the state championship game).”

Last week’s highlights, of which there were many, included two Louis Cheneau Jr. touchdown runs and two scoring passes from Jordan Loving to Kash Foley.

Zack Gieger also ran in a touchdown, while Garland Robertson returned a punt for a score.

East St. John at Thibodaux

The Wildcats suffered a tough shutout loss at home to Hahnville last week, but look to turn things around with a road trip to Thibodaux.

East St. John High (4-4, 3-2) has a victory advantage over the 2-6 Tigers; however, Thibodaux is freshly motivated after a 42-0 win last week over West St. Mary.

The 42 points are the most Thibodaux has scored this season.
