Honoring the nation’s hardest workers

Jobs are big news these days. What jobs are hot? And which are not? Which are fading into memory, and which are exploding onto the scene? And most importantly, who has a job, and who does not?

With all the talk about jobs now, one would think just about every aspect has been covered time and time again. However, the most important job in the world is often overlooked. No, not the president of the United States. That job is covered daily. The most important job in the world is that of mother.

On Sunday, people across the nation will stop to honor their mothers. It is well deserved. The cards and flowers and gifts and meals that will be bestowed upon the mothers everywhere, however, do little to make up for all the sacrifices mothers make for their families.

Mothers are still expected to be the primary caregivers, even though many of them work full time. They still do the heft of the cooking and the cleaning and the caring, despite working just as hard as their male counterparts. They are also the first person to get the blame when something goes wrong in a child’s life. “Where was his mother?” people often ask when a child gets into trouble.

Doctor, chef, maid and CEO, a mother is all of these things rolled into one. And these, of course, are in addition to her “regular” job.

So, by all means, honor your mother on Sunday. She deserves it. But also honor her throughout the year and never forget how much she has done. There isn’t another job in the world more deserving of praise than that of mother.
