Quality vs Knowledge
Our children deserve classroom teachers that are qualified and knowledgeable to teach subjects they have been certified (Yes, Certified) to teach.
We are where we are in the rankings because too many instructors are not getting the subjects through to the students, we have poor classroom management, too many reassignments in administration and yes, we need more parental involvement.
Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand (Real). We all have a job to do. Board members make promises to have community meetings during elections every time, but nothing happens.
We read more about sports in the news (Congrats) and not nearly enough about what students are doing in the classrooms.
We need to be talking about the changes we need to make St. John the Baptist Parish School System as competitive in academics as we show our sports highlights.
We have several programs that have been on the books. The JAG and Jump Start programs are not new in St. John, except the way it is not working the same as in other school systems. The idea of FSA II Resurrection of FSA I needs clarity ( what happened to the original FSA )?
Conflict Resolution was killed in our system years ago. How are we planning to resurrect this program? (Hours of training is a must.)
St. John has had a record of letting programs start under one administration and when changes are made programs soon disappear, regardless of its effectiveness to the District.
Parents need to talk to your children daily about what happens in their school classrooms and on campus.
We have people in our classrooms that have been around for over 10 years that have not completed certification. A few have been in the district for over 15 years. With all the changes in education, why are we so far behind in placing teachers that have what the LAW requires to be in Louisiana classrooms? Where is the monitoring and accountability? It is totally unfair to the children in St. John. Want to be a teacher? get your certification.
