LAPLACE — While houses in the River Parishes are beginning to light up as power is restored, many residents remain without access to Internet services. The following updates were provided this week by RTC/EATEL, Cox Communications and AT&T.
- RTC/EATEL Updates – REV Broadband, the parent company of several entities including RTC and EATEL, continues to assess and respond to significant damage done to its network. As of Sept. 16, nearly 75% of the company’s 2,800 miles of fiber optics-based network had been assessed. REV Broadband has maintained and/or restored service to more than 36,000 business and residential customers – equating to more than 66% of its customers. Additionally, community WiFi hotspots have been deployed to several locations throughout REV Broadband’s footprint. You can find a listing of hotspots and more information on restoration times here.
- Cox – In Metairie, Cox has completed all major repairs. Cox anticipates completing repairs in Kenner on Sunday, September 19 and repairs in St. Bernard and Algiers are expected to be completed Friday, September 17. In St. Charles Parish, utility pole work could be completed in the next few days, followed by fiber connections. To read more, click here.
- AT&T – Of the in-home voice or broadband customers where there is a known service outage, approximately 98% have had their service restored. While equipment that serves a neighborhood can be powered and online, AT&T may not be aware of specific in-home service impairment until customers return to their homes and commercial power is restored. Customers experiencing issues with their AT&T service are asked to call 800-331-0500 for wireless support or 800-288-2020 for Internet support.
