Suspect Arrested in Kentwood Homicide

Kentwood, La – The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of 25 year old John McGowan of Hammond in connection with the murder of 38 year old Marco Dillon of Kentwood.
Chief Jimmy Travis says on May 24, 2023, deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 9:30 PM at Backroad 40, a bar located on Hwy 1051 between Kentwood and the Village of Tangipahoa. Upon arrival deputies located Dillon suffering from a gunshot wound. Dillon was transported to Hood Memorial Hospital by ambulance, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigation shows there was an altercation outside the bar, during which McGowan brandished a firearm and shot Dillon in the chest.
McGowan has been charged with (1) count Second Degree Murder, (1) count Possession of a Firearm Inside an Alcoholic Beverage Outlet, and (1) count Protective Order Violation. At the time of arrest, McGowan also had an outstanding warrant for (1) count Aggravated Domestic Abuse Battery.
**All persons accused of a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty.
