Last week, Devontae Sanders of 711 Houmas St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 29, pled guilty to 3rd Degree Rape and Oral Sexual Battery (2 counts). Sanders was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Leila Braswell, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets.
On April 30, 2022, a female subject went into an area hospital and advised that she was raped. Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Detectives responded and initiated an investigation into the initial complaint made to medical staff. During an interview of the victim, detectives learned that Devontae Sanders raped and forced the victim to engage in oral sex. Detectives were able to obtain evidence supporting the complaint and made contact with Sanders who had been arrested following the rape for an outstanding bench warrant at the Ascension Parish Jail. Sanders ultimately admitted to proceeding with sexual contact after the victim stated she did not wish to participate. Sanders was subsequently booked on multiple additional charges in connection with this investigation.
Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
Submitted by Public Information Officer Tyler Cavalier for 23rd Judicial District Attorney Ricky L. Babin.
