The St. James Parish Chapter of the NAACP is hosting a membership drive as a companion event to Concerned Citizens of the River Parishes’ “Last Chance” Candidate Forum at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 13.
Voters will have the opportunity to hear from candidates vying for the U.S. House of Representatives, Second Congressional District seat recently vacated by Cedric Richmond. All 15 candidates have been invited to attend for a final opportunity to share their platform with River Parish voters ahead of the March 20 election.
Due to the off-cycle election date, Concerned Citizens of the River Parishes is hoping to highlight the significance of the seat to the state of Louisiana while encouraging voters to make an informed choice at the polls. St. James Parish Chapter of the NAACP Political Action Chairwoman and Chapter Vice President, Shelly Warren is happy to partner with Co-founder of Concerned Citizens of the River Parishes, Sonja Jones for this important event. Refreshments will be served along with voting themed raffles available to all attendees. Several candidates have confirmed their attendance. The organizers are hoping St. James, St. John the Baptist and St. Charles Parish residents come out in particular; but, all voters are welcomed. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will take place at the Westbank Reception Center located at 2455 Highway 18 in Vacherie, Louisiana.
