EDGARD — A Garyville man arrested last year for the rape of a juvenile is expected to be sentenced next month in connection to a separate case involving a sex offense.

A sentencing hearing is set April 1 for 48-year-old Terrell Williams, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish’s Clerk of Court’s office.

Williams pleaded guilty last month to failure to register or keep proper notification as a sex offender.

District Attorney Bridget A. Dinvaut said Williams pleaded guilty the day of trial and was not promised any special conditions at sentencing.

Dinvaut said Williams’ plea of guilty is not related to the D.A.’s office current prosecution of a rape case against Williams.

According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, detectives began investigating Williams, a registered sex offender, after learning of possible sexual abuse of a 13-year-old female.

Through further investigation, police said it was learned Williams allegedly forcefully raped the girl on more than one occasion, leading to an arrest warrant.

On Oct. 19, detectives made contact with Williams and arrested him for two counts of first degree rape.

Police said Williams is a registered sex offender due to a 2014 conviction for sexual battery.

Williams was transferred that month to Nelson Coleman Corrections Facility in Killona.

“Because of his charges, he has to be moved to isolation cells and we are not quite equipped for that,” St. John Sheriff Mike Tregre said at the time of arrest.
