RESERVE — Most school administrators in St. John the Baptist Parish have crunched the numbers and released official plans on scheduling for the rest of the academic year following three unplanned days (Jan. 17-19) off last week due to the Artic Blast.

St. Charles Catholic High School officials said they would adhere to the state’s requirement of instructional minutes but had not yet decided if that means a longer school day or previously unplanned attendance day.

One thing SCC officials do know is the school’s Mardi Gras vacation schedule would remain the same.

St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools is converting two previously scheduled Mardi Gras holidays (Feb. 15 and 16) into school attendance days.

The District is also adding a day to the school year, making May 28 the last day for students and May 29 the last day for teachers.

Superintendent Kevin George said multiple options were discussed with the School Board before Board members turned over two options to District employees to vote on.

The discarded option would have taken three days away from the scheduled Spring Break holiday.

School officials with St. Peter School, Riverside Academy, St. Joan of Arc and Ascension of Our Lord each told L’OBSERVATUER their schedules had enough built-in wiggle room to continue on the academic year without any additional schedule changes.
