LAPLACE — Through Jan. 27, Knights of Columbus Ascension of Our Lord Council 9623 members are selling raffle tickets for a vacation giveaway to a location of the winner’s choice to raise money for the organization’s charitable works.

Tickets are available for a minimum donation of $10 and include entry to the Valentine’s Dance Jan. 27 at the Don Bosco Hall in LaPlace, where the winner will be selected. Tickets for the dance and vacation giveaway can also be purchased at the door during the event.

Membership chairman and fundraising co-chairman Larry Larousse said Council 9623 members would pay for the winner’s lodging at any destination within the continental U.S., and the winner may also opt for a $1,500 cash pay out in lieu of the vacation.

Larousse hopes to raise $10,000 to fund service efforts involving local schools, churches and victims of natural disasters.

Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic men’s organization that advocates for families, the poor, the church and the local community.

The Ascension of Our Lord Council boasts more than 150 members and has been voted No. 1 Council in the state for four of the past five years in recognition of outstanding service, according to Grand Knight Michael Abbate.

Larousse said his Council is known for working with hurricane victims, adding several members traveled to Port Arthur, Texas, in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey to serve hot meals to thousands.

“We’re doing a lot more with disaster relief, so we’re trying to build up those funds before hurricane season rolls around again,” Larousse said.
