LAPLACE — A former employee of Petra’s Restaurant was arrested this week, charged with burglarizing the West Airline Highway establishment.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Jemine Turner, 31, of LaPlace, Monday, linking him to a mid-month break-in.
Police said someone entered the business overnight July 13 through a back door that may have been unlocked since the back area of the business is fenced.
An unknown object damaged two cash register drawers, but police said nothing was stolen. Detectives began their burglary investigation the next day, saying Jemine Turner was identified as a suspect.
He was arrested for simple burglary – immovable structure, and police said, “Turner confessed to his involvement in the incident,” according to a Sheriff’s Office release.
Authorities said prior to his arrest, Turner was wanted for contempt of court in St. John Parish and aggravated assault, simple burglary and disturbing the peace in Vernon Parish.
Turner, who used to work at Petra’s as a dishwasher, is being held in custody in lieu of a $25,169.50 bond.
