LAPLACE — An illegal drug exchange for a couple hundred dollars led to fatal consequences this week, police said.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said a local man was killed at approximately 5:15 p.m. Wednesday when the victim attempted to sell two ounces of marijuana, valued at just under $200.
“One guy was selling drugs to the other guy,” Tregre said. “When the buyer produced his money, the seller grabbed the money and took off running. The buyer caught up with him and they got into a fight.”
A knife was produced during the altercation and the suspected seller, according to police, was killed.
“The same knife that was used to kill the victim, it slashed (the suspect’s) hand open during the scuffle,” Tregre said.
Authorities arrested a suspect, identified as Leslie J. Hollingsworth of New Orleans, fleeing the scene in a vehicle. He was treated overnight for the hand injury. Hollingsworth is charged with second degree murder.
Police said the victim was 19-year-old Alton Robinson of LaPlace.
