RESERVE — Applications are being accepted for the St. John the Baptist Parish Early Childhood Community Network 2017-18 academic year.
The first selection date for admission is March 17. Applying early is encouraged as these slots will fill up quickly.
The Early Childhood Community Network has slots available for preschool children that are not determined by income eligibility. All income levels are welcome.
These programs are offered at East St. John Elementary, West St. John Elementary, St. John Child Development Center and Lake Pontchartrain Elementary.
Two more classes will be opening at school sites yet to be determined.
Applications may be picked up at any of the schools above and are also available at stjohn.k12.la.us. Children eligible for these programs must be 3 or 4 years of age by Sept. 30. This year, the district will be opening at least two classes for 3-year-olds.
The Community Network also has classes available at Children of God Daycare, Garden of Eden Christian Academy, Kids of Distinction Learning Academy, Little Leaders Learning Academy, Terence Day Care and Well’s Wallace Learning Academy.
These high-quality programs have spots available ranging from infant through 4 years old. Financial assistance is available for eligible families through the Louisiana Department of Education Child Care Assistance Program.
All preschool applicants must fill out a Unified Application, which will allow families to determine the best placement for their child based on the desired services and location.
Parents will indicate their program choice on the Unified Application. Applications can be dropped off at the St. John Child Development Center at 117 Stebbins St. in Garyville, the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board Office at 118 W. 10th St. in Reserve or West St. John Elementary School at 2555 River Road in Edgard.
Completed applications, with all required documentation, should be returned as soon as possible.
Staff will be available to assist with applications at the St. John Child Development Center.
Eligibility for the Head Start program is determined by federal income guidelines issued by the Administration for Children, Youth and Families, as well as by if a child has documented special needs or disabilities.
Current family income information, along with a copy of the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record and proof of residency must accompany the application.
Other items needed, if applicable, are proof of income, Social Security benefits award letter or check, U.S. entry papers, food stamp print out sheet, documentation of a disability and child’s health insurance/Medicaid/LaChip card.
If a parent is in school, verification from the school he or she is attending is required.
