THIBODAUX – The community is invited to join Nicholls State University Jan. 14 as it honors members of the 1975-76 men’s basketball team on the 30th anniversary of their historic 20-3 season.
The men completed the 1975-76 season with the highest winning percentage in Colonels basketball history, a record that still stands. The team went on to win two more games in the Division II NCAA Tournament before losing to the University of North Alabama, the season’s eventual national champion.
The team was coached by Don Landry. Now retired and living in The Villages, Fla., he said, “I am thrilled that Nicholls State University will be honoring the 1975-76 team. This was a special group of student-athletes and they deserve the special recognition, even 30 years after the greatest season in Colonels basketball history.”
Members of the team will be recognized for their achievement during halftime of the men’s basketball game against Southeastern Louisiana University at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, in Stopher Gymnasium. Tickets prices range from $3 to $10 for children and from $6 to $10 for adults. Tickets are available at the door or in advance by contacting the Nicholls State University Ticket Office in Barker Hall at (985) 448-4792.
