RESERVE- “We want to keep striving to be the best defensive squad in the state.” ESJ Coach Troy Giordano stated after Tuesday night’s victory against East Ascension, 54-32. That proved the point for the Lady Cats as they held the Lady Spartans under 10 points the entire first-half and proving once again, why only four out the 17 teams they have faced have been able to score 50 or more points.
Keyona Nelson led the team with 11 points. Kimijuan Anderson and Crystal Fleming gathered eight points each, while freshmen Clemetrise Bell and Mechelle Thomas scored seven points each. While Thomas’ crafty aggressiveness overwhelmed the Lady Spartans with numerous steals.
In the first quarter of play, Thomas led the charge and the Lady Cats began to distort the Lady Spartans focus allowing only them only six points.
While in the second quarter, Anderson made it an easy game against the East Ascension defense, making eight points with ease. Defensively, they allowed only two points to be scored by the Lady Spartans.
The second-half brought the same fate for East Ascension, as the second team for ESJ came onto the court for the majority of the second-half and finally secured the 54-32 victory. ESJ overall record is now 15-3.
“We’re coming off a loss, and the girls came into the game ready to play. And they did just that, they played well and we had a good night.” Giordano stated after the game.ESJ Ladycats remain 107-4 at home for the past ten years and running.
