RESERVE — The Riverside Rebels appeared flawless as they swept the St. James Wildcats three straight games to win their district 4-2A opener; 25-11, 25-13, 25-13 on Thursday at their home court.

The Rebels are now 6-4 overall and 1-0 in district.

Riverside split their two matches this past week, losing to Ascension Catholic on Tuesday and then rebounding against St. James on Thursday.

Despite the lose to Ascension Catholic earlier this week head coach Missy Martin sat courtside against St. James calm and confident as Erica Oubre, Marci Millet, Nicole Poirrier and Ashley Heckathorn led the Lady Rebels in what appeared as a lop-sided victory against the Wildcats.

Marci Millet dominated the front line against St. James with 10 kills and defensive presence that defied several Wildcat attempts to score. Erica Oubre had an all around awesome performance with 13 digs, three assists, and five kills. Ashley Heckathorn served an astonishing six aces along with 10 digs.

“The girls knew that it was time to play together since it was district,” Martin said. “This is what determines playoffs, and we talked about it before the match. We had to start playing our best now, and the girls did a lot better.”

Erica Oubre led the team against Ascension Catholic with eight kills, four assist, and 15 digs. Marci Millet had seven kills, four assists, and 18 digs. Jessica Price served four aces. Ashley Heckathorn had three aces and three assists. Nicole Poirrier led the defense with 20 digs and six saves.

Riverside will be participating in the Blenk tournament this weekend and then traveling to St. Charles to play the 5-10 Comets in a district game.
