All West St. John head coach Lester Smith wanted was some offensive help for his star player Jada Fiffie.
He got it.
In addition to 19 points from Fiffie, Kelly Young made her return to the lineup by scoring 15 points and helped West St. John defeat Fisher 46-32 Friday night.
With the win the Rams are 5-6 overall and 3-2 in district play.
“Kelly was unable to play in the last game because she was sick,” an excited Smith said. “It was great to get her back and have her contribute and take some of the offensive pressure off of Jada.”
Trailing at the half, Smith said the story of the game was his team’s effort in the second half, particularly defensively.
“We were down four at the half and really came out on fire in the second half,” Smith said. “We only allowed 10 points in the second half. The defensive effort was just great in the second half. We only allowed six and four points each quarter. You can’t ask for more than that.”
After taking on Buras on Tuesday, the Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to McGehee.
