St. John’s Sheriff’s Office charges man for shooting cyclist

On Thursday night, Jan. 30, a LaPlace man was taken into custody after reportedly shooting at a bicyclist multiple times.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that the shooting, which left the bicyclist unharmed, occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Cinclair Loop.

Authorities have identified 17-year-old Te’yairone Florent as a suspect in the shooting. He was arrested and charged with second-degree murder at the St. John the Baptist Parish Jail, where his bond is set at $250,000.

Officials report that no motive has been established and that the investigation is ongoing.
