St. John the Baptist Parish announces dusk-to-dawn curfew due to hazardous snowy roads

Authorities in St. John the Baptist Parish have announced a dusk-to-dawn curfew as a winter storm continues to blanket the  region in snow.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre asked residents to stay off the roadways from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday because of the hazardous conditions.

To avoid accidents on the roads, drivers are urged to stay home as I-10 in both directions between U.S. 51 and LA 3188 I-55 in both directions between I-10 and LA 22 have been closed.

Snowfall totals across the River parishes – St John, St Charles and St James – ranged from 2 to 5 inches as of noon. Forecasters expect snow to continue to fall through the evening, other parts of Louisiana were reporting up to 7.5 inches of snow at 01:00 p.m., according to snowfall reports verified by the National Weather Service.

Routes for garbage collection in St John the Baptist Parish scheduled for Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025, are cancelled, while pickup on Thursday will be determined tomorrow.
