LaPlace man booked for attempted murder after another shot in leg, police say

LAPLACE — A local 18-year-old man is facing an attempted murder charge following a violent robbery in LaPlace.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office announced Anthony Williams of LaPlace was arrested Tuesday for attempted first degree murder and armed robbery with a firearm following a Dec. 17 confrontation.

Police said Williams and three other men attempted to rob a man who was walking in the area of Fairway and North Sugar Ridge drives in LaPlace at approximately 1 a.m.

“The victim told officers, when he refused to give up his money and other valuables, one of the subjects, later identified as Williams, produced a gun and shot him one time in the leg,” a release from the Sheriff’s Office said. “Then, the victim and subjects fled the scene.”

Williams is being held in the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility, authorities saying his bond had not been set as of Wednesday morning.

Three other men are being sought in connection to the armed robbery, police said.
