A Mississippi man pleaded guilty in the St. Tammany Parish 22nd Judicial District on June 14 for wildlife violations. The Honorable Judge Ray Childress accepted the guilty plea from Cody Powe, 23, of Carriere, Miss., for taking over the daily limit and seasonal limit of deer and failing to tag and validate the harvested deer. Powe must pay a total of $8,248 in fines plus court costs. The guilty plea stems from a case made by Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents during the 2022-23 deer hunting season. During the investigation, agents revealed that Powe harvested two antlerless deer on Nov. 24 from the Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge (BCNWF). For this area, a hunter is only allowed to harvest one antlered and one antlerless deer per day. Agents also learned that Powe harvested an antlerless deer on Nov. 19 and an antlered deer on Dec. 20 from the BCNWF. For this area of the state, a hunter is only allowed to harvest three deer per season not to exceed two antlered or two antlerless deer. LDWF Corporal Michael Marques investigated the case with Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Conservation Officer Brian Deschamp.
