Keller: Great athlete enjoys grandson’s game

Tuesday afternoon, I attended the St. Charles Catholic – De LaSalle baseball game. I had the opportunity to sit next to a high school friend, Larry Martin.
Larry’s grandson, Jordan Jensen, was the catcher for the Comets. It was the first game he attended this year.
Larry was one of the best all-around athletes at LGHS, (the old Reserve High School) lettering in four sports — football, baseball, basketball and track.
I know what it is to have a grandchild participate in sports.
Larry was anxious for Jordan to do well, and I felt for him as Jordan struck out his first trip to the plate.
The second time he walked, and some people said that was as good as a hit. (Believe me, it’s not.)
In the fourth inning, Jordan doubled to left, which scored two runs. In the sixth inning, he again doubled and had two more RBIs.
Sitting next to Larry and seeing the pleasure he enjoyed watching Jordan, who was responsible for four runs in the Comets’ 9–6 victory over the De LaSalle Cavaliers, was exciting.
When I got home, Jeanne asked if I had a good time. I really did!
It was great to be with one of the nicest guys in our school. We shared about old times and memories that were special.
I was reminded how God gives up the desires of our heart. He surely blessed Larry and Jordan, and I was excited to be a witness to it all.
