A benefit account has been set up at Regions Bank following the tragic death of 5-year-old Addisyn Teekell, the daughter of St. John Sheriff’s Office Deputy Benjamin Teekell.
Addisyn was killed as a result of injuries sustained during a Friday evening wreck in St. Amant.
Deputy Teekell and his 8-year-old daughter, Ashtyn, also were treated for injuries sustained in the crash, authorities said.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office has opened a fund for the family at Regions Bank. Anyone may make a donation at any Regions Bank in the name of the fund: “Teekell Family Benefit Account.”
Deputy Benjamin Teekell works in the Sheriff’s Office’s Special Operations/K9 Division.
Louisiana State Police Troop A personnel began investigating the two-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana 621 west of Louisiana 431 in Ascension Parish shortly after 9 p.m. Friday.
The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Benjamin Teekell, 32, of Baton Rouge was traveling westbound on Louisiana 621 in a 2013 GMC Terrain.
At the same time, 35-year-old Joey Gaudet of Gonzales was traveling eastbound on Louisiana 621 in a 1999 GMC Yukon.
For reasons still under investigation, Gaudet attempted to make a left turn onto Mire Road and struck Teekell’s vehicle head-on.
Addisyn Teekell was properly restrained at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.
Benjamin Teekell and Joey Gaudet were also properly restrained and sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, State Police said, but a toxicology sample was taken from both drivers for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, State Police announced Saturday.
A request for update this morning was unsuccessful.
