Keller: Rev. Graham delivered humble message

To be great among many, you have to be a servant to all. Rev. Billy Graham was such a man.

He died last week, a few months before he would have reached 100 years old. He was the greatest ambassador for our Savior, Jesus Christ in my lifetime.

When I think of his life, I’m reminded of Proverbs 22:4: “By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life.” His humble spirit is what attracted millions of people in over 100 countries.

His message was a consistent, simple one about encouraging everyone to know and accept Jesus as their Savior.

As he got older, when people tried to praise him, he would always say, “It’s not about me; it’s all about Him.”

In his early years, as he announced more and more crusades, many other big time ministers resisted his work.

All he did was continue preaching the most important Scripture in the Bible — John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Because of the love he had for his Creator and Savior, his body will lie in honor in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda today and Thursday.

His wooden coffin was made by inmates of Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola — a loud message about a humble man with a simple life-changing message.
