Keller: Great family talk comes from ‘chance’ breakfast encounter

Published 2:32 pm Thursday, November 2, 2017

I realize that some strangers you meet are just a coincidence, but many are divine appointments. Such was the case last Saturday.

My friend, Pat McEvoy, and I decided to have breakfast at the Airport Hilton.

Seated next to us was a pleasant-looking couple. As they prepared to begin eating, I noticed the young lady bowing her head, evidently blessing her food.

Later I thanked her for being a witness to me, because I sometimes neglect to thank God.

After all of us were finished eating, I approached their table, excused myself and, with permission, sat down. The couple, Cornelius and Tavia Gibson, from Grand Prairie, Texas, was in New Orleans to celebrate their daughter, Taylor’s, birthday.

She graduated from Xavier University with a degree in Bio Chemistry and has applied to med school.

Another daughter, Courtni, a graduate of Arkansas Monticello University, has made a decision to further her education and become a pharmacist.

Their son, Nicholas, is attending the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, majoring in sports medicine.

It wasn’t very hard to discern that Mr. and Mrs. Gibson were committed Christians.

For the past 23 years, Cornelius has been a proud policeman and his wife has taught English at a middle school for the past 12 years.

Cornelius said that he loves his work and considers it a ministry.

“I get an opportunity to share Jesus with so many people,” he said.

He is a spirit-filled public servant. I don’t know what he tells people, but I guarantee his spirit is enough to convince people of his faith.

I told Tavia, “The Bible says when a man finds a wife, he’s found a good thing. God has certainly blessed your husband. He is a godly man which is a gift to all your family.”  She agreed.

As our visit ended, we prayed and I said meeting them was truly a gift from God.
