GARYVILLE — Police thwarted a potential residential arson, arresting a local couple after the argument reached dangerous levels, authorities said.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 200 block of South Church Street in Garyville after a male suspect was causing a disturbance and pouring gasoline inside a residence.
Deputies approached the residence with the door opened, a Sheriff’s Office release said, smelling a strong odor of gasoline and hearing a verbal alteration taking place between a male and female.
The suspects were identified as 45-year-old Brian S. Gremillion and 40-year-old Landora Musco.
Police said the home was Musco’s and Gremillion lived there.
Deputies made contact with the subjects and learned an argument between Gremillion and Musco, his girlfriend, escalated when Gremillion threaten to set the home on fire.
Police said no one else was in the residence.
“Soon after, firefighters arrived on the scene for further investigation, and a computer check also showed Gremillion had an active warrant for contempt of court, and Musco was wanted on a fugitive warrant from Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office,” a Sheriff’s Office release said, adding no one was injured.
Gremillion was booked with attempted aggravated arson and for a contempt of court misdemeanor warrant.
He is being held in custody in lieu of a $12,169.50 bond.
Musco was arrested and transferred to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Police said firefighters did not have to extinguish anything and the argument’s cause is unknown.
Police said Gremillion told Musco to leave, and she refused to since it was her home.
