Dear editor,

The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office’s BearCat, the bullet-proof vehicle used to transport the department’s Crisis Management Unit, and Titus of the SJSO K9 Unit, were among the highlights of the 14th annual Kids on the Move day camp July 11 at New Wine Christian Fellowship in LaPlace.

Lt. Denise Bertrand, Sgt. Leonard Sanders Sr., Sgt. Darlinta Garrison and Deputy Bernell Charles talked with the children about the BearCat and the job of CMU members.

Sgt. Stephen Hefler and Titus also visited with the children, and Sgt. Hefler talked about his and Titus’ job. Sgt. Hefler explained to students that

Titus’s job is to find suspects and bombs.

The officers enjoyed the morning, showcasing BearCat and Titus and visiting with the children.
