Keller: O’Neil Boe received special Independence Day tributes

One of the most memorable Fourth of July holidays I’ve ever experienced was this past weekend.

It all started late in the afternoon Sunday, July 2, when one of my best friends, O’Neil Boe, passed away at the age of 95.

He died surrounded by his family. He was truly an American hero who received the Silver Star for gallantry in action, above and beyond the call of duty.

The next day at the Annual Veteran’s Luncheon, Parish President Natalie Robottom acknowledged him for his service to our country.

That night, the administration also paid tribute to him at the Independence Day celebration along the river.

It was a celebration with fireworks, entertainment and a festive mode for all in attendance.

It also featured a salute to our veterans. I felt it was a send-off for my friend, O’Neil.

I thank God for allowing me to know O’Neil. He was a blessing to Jeanne and I.

It amazes me how God directs our lives. How fitting for Him to call O’Neil home on our Independence Holiday!

May God Bless America!
