LAPLACE — The National Weather Service is predicting scattered strong to severe storms to impact Southeast Louisiana and possibly St. John the Baptist Parish Thursday as a low pressure system moves through the region.
The main threats are strong wind gusts, large hail and isolated tornadoes.
In addition, rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches will be possible. Locally heavy rainfall in short periods of time could lead to ponding in low-lying areas and street flooding.
Public Works crew members have worked to clear roads, catch basins and drainage systems in preparation for the inclement weather possibility, parish officials said. Crews will continue to monitor weather conditions and will be on standby.
Residents are asked to assist with cleaning out catch basins and storm drains to assist with drainage and removing debris and tree limbs from yards. Please report any issues to 911.
The St. John Office of Emergency Preparedness is in contact with the National Weather Service and receiving updates, however residents should also monitor weather stations for changing conditions. To register for St. John Parish emergency alerts, visit sjbparish.com and click on “Stay Connected.”
