LAPLACE — Members of the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office received an unexpected bang at a Sunnyside Drive home Monday while looking for a battery and robbery suspect.
“We were making entry into the home, because when we knocked on the door, a resident said (the suspect) was in the house, in the back,” Sheriff Mike Tregre said.
“We proceeded in the house, and he came crashing in through the ceiling. We helped him up and took him to jail.”
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Jonell Butler of LaPlace, was booked on three St. John Parish warrants, a fugitive warrant for the New Orleans Police Department for aggravated battery, first-degree robbery and illegal carrying of a weapon. According to authorities, Butler has been arrested seven times in St. John Parish since April 2001.
“He is one of our regulars,” Tregre said.
