RESERVE — The St. John the Baptist Parish fire department responded to two fires over the weekend, one of which destroyed an apartment complex in Reserve.

According to reports, a fire was reported at 7:41 a.m. Friday at an apartment complex on NW 3rd Street in Reserve.

The apartment building, which housed four families in four apartments, was heavily damaged and deemed unlivable.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire, according to St. John Communications Director Baileigh Rebowe Helm.

Helm said three of the families living there have received housing assistance from local Red Cross agents.

In a separate incident on Sunday, firefighters were called to a home on Tuscany Drive in LaPlace at 9:59 p.m. for a chimney fire.

No damage was reported to the structure, Helm said.
