Gumbo Cook-off set at AOL Sunday

LAPLACE — Ascension of Our Lord Knights of Columbus Council 9623 will be hosting the East Bank New Orleans Archdiocese Gumbo Cook-off Sunday at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School, 1809 Greenwood Drive in LaPlace.

Cooks will begin cooking at 7:30 a.m., and judging is at 10:30 a.m. Serving as judges are Clerk of Courts Eliana DeFrancesh, Gertrude Gardner Realtor Lilly Dufrene and St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre.

Upon completion of judging, gumbo will be sold to the public at $5. This is one of three locations the competition is being held.

Winners of the event will proceed to the state gumbo cook-off sponsored by the Louisiana State Knights of Columbus to be held at Most Blessed Sacrament School in Baton Rouge.

The Knights of Columbus, a Catholic national organization, through its charitable fundraisers, helps people around the world. Through fundraisers such as this, Council 9623 has been one of the first respondents of recent catastrophes within this region.
