LAPLACE — Some of the youngest students at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School have been the most active recently, and they have got their parents and the community involved, as well.

The prekindergarten classes were visited recently by members of the St. John Parish Fire Department, who spoke about fire safety and what to do in case of a fire. A firefighter dressed in full gear demonstrated to children what they look like when entering a home that is on fire.

Students were allowed to explore a fire truck and take pictures with Sparky.

Parents also recently joined their prekindergarten and kindergarten students at a camping themed Family Night.

Teachers read books about camping, and students completed fun learning activities with their parents.

To reach out to the community and have some fun, St. Joan of Arc first graders visited Twin Oaks Nursing Home and Maison Oaks Assisted Living during the Halloween build up.

They dressed in costume and brought Halloween happiness. Lots of little voices saying, “Happy Halloween!” were met with smiles and giggles of the residents as they gave the children candy.
