EDGARD — A local man faces sentencing next month after pleading guilty to charges involving a sexual encounter with a minor and intentionally exposing the child to the AIDS virus in the process.

Barlon Cammon of LaPlace is facing a Dec. 21 presentence investigation hearing, where his sentence could be announced if no other continuances are granted, a St. John the Baptist Parish Clerk of Court’s Office representative said.

Cammon pleaded guilty Oct. 19 in front of Judge J. Sterling Snowdy to two counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and two counts of intentional exposure to the AIDS virus.

His presentence investigation is scheduled to conclude Dec. 20. Cammon was ordered held in St. Charles Parish until then.

Cammon was arrested Dec. 9, 2015, after St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators said he engaged in sexual intercourse in St. John Parish with minors detectives believed were approximately 15 and 16 at the time.

According to authorities, the incidents occurred two to three years before his arrest.

St. John deputies were forwarded information on an ongoing investigation out of St. James Parish at the beginning 2015.

Cammon worked for the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office from October, 2007 to April, 2009 before a stint with the Lutcher Police Department.
