RESERVE — West St. John High scored the first touchdown and the last touchdown in Friday night’s big District 12-2A showdown between the Rams and the Rebels of Riverside Academy.

But in between, it was all Riverside, which romped to a 49-15 victory.

Rebels quarterback Jordan Loving passed for 156 yards and three touchdowns, all to different receivers.

Jared Butler caught one for 5 yards, Avonti Cannon caught one for 6 yards and Jalen Banks caught one for 12 yards.

Running back Louis Cheneau ran for a pair of scores, one from 5 yards out and another from the 4.

Sophomore Cash Foley also had a break-out game, rushing for 65 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown. He also returned the second half kickoff for 83 yards and another score.

It was not a bad night for the Rebels (5-1, 2-0), who had not played on their home field since Sept. 16, when they hosted Hahnville in a drenching rain.

It also was the Rebels’ seventh consecutive win over the Rams (2-5, 0-2) in what used to be one of the River Parishes’ biggest rivalries.

The Rams looked like they came ready to do some damage early.

After Riverside deferred the opening kickoff, West St. John’s Dontrel Davis returned it to the 48-yard line.

On the very first play from scrimmage, Rams quarterback Austin Alexander tossed to Jamal Walters, who threw downfield to a wide open Marcus Boudoin for a 52-yard touchdown 18 seconds into the game.

Riverside came right back, however, driving to the 5. From there, Loving passed to Butler for the first of eight Rebels touchdowns.

West St. John, meanwhile struggled with injuries throughout the night. Alexander, who started the game, left in the second quarter with a hand injury.

The Rams alternated between Walters and D’andre Gaudia for the rest of the night, but never got anything going offensively until the very end. Each threw interceptions as well.

Gaudia connected with Jarring Johnson for an 8-yard touchdown with 1:02 remaining and successfully executed the 2-point conversion.

Walters finished with 95 yards passing. Running back Kylon Duhe rushed for 39 yards on 15 carries.

St. Charles 38, Newman 19

The Comets found their offense Uptown Friday night.

Quarterback Lloyd Nash rushed 325 yards and two touchdowns and Narquez Jones rushed for 117 yards as the Comets improved to 6-1, 2-0.

St. Charles jumped to a 17-0 lead  on an 11-yard touchdown by Jones, a 46-yard field goal by Andrew Rodrigue and a 19-yard touchdown by Jones.

Newman scored just before halftime on a 50-yard touchdown by Murray Calhoun.

Nash put St. Charles ahead 24-7 when he broke free for a 72-yard touchdown run. He later added a 1-yard sneak to make it 31-7.

Newman added a 7-yard touchdown and a 1-yard touchdown, but failed to convert both 2-point conversions.

Hahnville 41, East St. John 20

For the second week in a row, East St. John High jumped to an early lead against a District 7-5A opponent only to let it slip away.

The Wildcats jumped to a 13-0 lead before Hahnville rallied for 41 points.

Hahnville stopped East St. John on its opening possession, but a fake punt gave the Wildcats new life.

Dasmain Crosby, who started the game in place of Marquise Darensbourg, connected with C.J. Turner on a 14-yard touchdown.

Hahnville drove down the field but fumbled in the red zone and East St. John recovered. Tigers quarterback Austin Perrin would later throw a pick-6 to Teorae Henderson.

The missed PAT left East St. John with a 13-0 lead.

Then Hahnville settled down. Anthony Williams scored from 11 yards  and Perrin scored from the 5 with eight seconds remaining in the first half.

Darensbourg did play in the second half and was picked off by the Tigers’ William Brown to set up another HHS score. Crosby threw a 2-yard touchdown to Turner.
