Keller: There is plenty cancer can’t do

The month of October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The main message is to encourage women to have regular mammograms. Early diagnosis of this deadly disease can help cure patients.
My wife had breast cancer years ago and because she annually had a mammogram, received the needed successful surgery that allows her to live a normal life.
During this month, the color pink will be worn by many of us, including the NFL players, to get our attention to this dreaded, treatable disease if diagnosed early.
If you or someone you know has cancer, there are choices that must be made. Cancer kills, and the news that you have been diagnosed with the disease is devastating.
I’ll never forget in 1992 when my daughter, Ronny, was diagnosed with acute leukemia. Her doctor shared the following with her:
WHAT CANCER CANNOT DO
Cancer is so limited
It cannot cripple love
It cannot shatter hope
It cannot corrode faith
It cannot destroy peace
It cannot kill friendship
It cannot suppress memories
It cannot silence courage
It cannot invade the soul
It cannot steal eternal life
It cannot conquer the spirit

Instead of focusing on the negative news of cancer, be positive and concentrate on the things that cannot rob us of our serenity.
