All public, private schools in St. John Parish cancel class for Wednesday

RESERVE — St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools cancelled classes for Wednesday.
A release from the School District said the closure was necessary due to the uncertainty associated with the current weather event and in order to allow parish resources to be concentrated on any possible flooding.
The Patron Tour organizational meeting scheduled for Wednesday is also canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date.
District leaders ask residents to monitor local media, the school district Facebook page and stjohn.k12.la.us for any updates as to cancellations for the rest of the week.
Other St. John the Baptist Parish schools that have announced school would be closed Wednesday include Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School in LaPlace, St. Charles Catholic School in LaPlace and St. Joan of Arc Catholic School.
In Reserve, Riverside Academy announced it would close school Wednesday.
RA released the following statement: The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance. Therefore Riverside Academy will be closed tomorrow, August 17, and at this time plans are to resume classes Thursday. Please refer to our Facebook, messaging system and local television stations for information. Stay Safe.
St. Peter Catholic School in Reserve is also closed. The school released the following statement: In accordance with the Archdiocese of New Orleans policy, the Catholic schools follow the local civil parish regarding school closures and re-openings due to inclement weather. As a result, St. Peter School will be closed tomorrow, August 17.
