News feature: Garyville sinkhole caused by broken pipe

- A Garyville resident reported that a portion of Museum Street near Fatty’s Restaurant had caved in the morning of July 2 and posted a photo of the large hole on Facebook. The resident said she called 911 to report the hole. According to St. John the Baptist Parish Communications Director Baileigh Rebowe Helm, utilities workers discovered a broken pipe in a manhole, which caused the sinkhole. The St. John Public Works department filled the hole quickly, and pipe repairs will be completed soon to allow for permanent repairs to the road.
