Calling it a proud moment, Riverside Academy’s Tyler Gauthier finished out his high school baseball career Sunday as the only St. John the Baptist Parish player on a roster at the annual Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star game at Tigue Moore Field in Lafayette.
Gauthier, who graduated from Riverside and was named the school’s Male Athlete of the Year, was on the East Team, which took on a team of players hailing from west of the Mississippi River.
Gauthier and Lutcher’s Cameron Guillot were the only River Parishes players selected to play.
The East and the West tied in the first game of a double-header, 1-1, in which Gauthier started in right field and played center. He had a single, a stolen base and made several diving catches in the outfield.
During the second game, he hit a triple to help the East take a 5-0 victory.
“I’m proud to say that my high school career ended with a bang,” Gauthier said. “I had a great time playing in the All-Star game. I met some good athletes and won the game. I can’t wait to start the new chapter of my life.”
Said Rebels baseball coach Frank Cazeaux: “He definitely deserved to be there. I think he’s certainly one of the better players in the area. It was a great opportunity to showcase him a little bit.”
Cazeaux said Gauthier will sign with Delgado Community College to continue his baseball career.
