Honor fallen heroes of St. John Wednesday

RESERVE — Those that gave their lives in service are gone but certainly not forgotten.

In an effort to keep their spirits alive, the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office is holding a candlelight vigil honoring the fallen heroes of St. John.

The vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday the Regala Gym in Reserve.

Angle Thompson, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office, said the guest speaker would be Louisiana Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne.

“The St. John Sheriff’s Office is hosting this special event to pay tribute to fallen officers and honor their memory,” Thompson said. “These officers dedicated their lives to protecting and serving their community, and they should be remembered.”

St. John residents are invited to attend the vigil and remember the officers that gave their lives to their community.

St. John Sheriff’s officers killed in the line of duty are Constable Ignace Rousselle, Oct. 20, 1936; Deputy Harry Troxlair Sr., Aug. 1, 1969; Det. Lt. Sherman Walker, Nov. 6, 1984; Deputy Barton J. Granier, Jan. 27, 1996; Code Officer Edmond Songy Jr., July 9, 2002; Captain Octavio “Ox” Gonzalez, June 16, 2006; Deputy Brandon Nielson, Aug. 16, 2012 and Deputy Jeremy Triche, Aug. 16, 2012.
