Sports briefs: locals make 2A All-State team

RESERVE — Four St. John the Baptist Parish players have been named to the 2016 Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 2A All-State Basketball team released this week.

Riverside Academy senior Malik Crowfield and sophomore Jared Butler were named to the boys first team while senior Herb Magee was named to the second team.

West St. John senior Maya Trench was named to the girls first team.

Crowfield averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Class 2A state runner-up.  He has committed to Virginia Commonwealth University. Butler averaged 21 points, seven assists and four rebounds. Magee averaged 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

He has committed to South Alabama.

Trench was the leading scorer in the parish this season, averaging 19.2 points per game. She has committed to Xavier University.

River vs. Bayou
All-Star game today

The Thibodaux Lions Club will host its annual River Parishes vs. Bayou Parishes All-Star basketball game at 7 p.m. today at Thibodaux High School. A Slam Dunk and 3-point Shooting Contest will be held at 5:30 p.m. Representing St. John the Baptist Parish will be Troy Green and Raekwon McKnight of East St. John, Amere Oubre and Jamison Lumar of West St. John and Jobe Kelly of St. Charles Catholic.

The game will be streamed live atsportsnola.com. The tape delay will be broadcast at 5 p.m. Wednesday on WHNO Channel 20.

RA’s Gauthier named to All-Star team

Riverside Academy senior outfielder Tyler Gauthier has been selected to participate in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star game, to be played May 20 and 21 at North Park in Denham Springs.

Riverside holding golf tournament

Riverside Academy will hold its annual golf tournament May 6 at Cypress Lakes Country Club in Destrehan. The cost is $125 per golfer.

Hole sponsorships are available for $100 each. Registration forms can be obtained by emailing Robert Hymel at rhymeljr@yahoo.com.
