Keller: Faith trumps fear through all of life’s tests

At a recent Bible study one man said that when fear walks in, faith walks out.
Much to my surprise, I held my tongue, but thought, “If we have faith, it’s impossible to allow fear in.” In fact, the Bible says that it’s impossible to serve God without faith.
What confuses people is that faith and fear have identical definitions. Both are believing in things you expect in the future, not being able to see or prove.
The only fear a Christian should have is found in Proverbs 9:10 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”
I confess to be a person of faith, but have to admit that fear has a tendency to get my attention. It’s then that I realize faith is not faith until it’s tested.
I’ve been attending early morning Bible sharing meetings since 1988. The five things that are discussed the most are faith, faithfulness, fear, forgiveness and fruitfulness.
When I share about faith I often repeat that when visiting a terminal ill person, I can pray and believe for a healing.
I also pray that if I’m ever in that position, God will give me the confidence that comes only with faith and that regardless of the outcome, I’ll be OK.
When asked what my greatest fear is, my response is being afraid of dying after talking about spending eternity with my Heavenly Father.
I’ve talked a good game and would hate to lose my testimony. I want to be remembered by my family and friends as fighting the good fight and finishing strong.
I constantly remind myself of the following quote by A. W. Tozer: “Outside of the Will of God there is nothing I want. Inside the Will of God there is nothing I fear.
