LAPLACE – The beautiful weather on Saturday was icing on the cake to a great day of fundraising for cancer research as St. John the Baptist Parish held its annual Relay for Life.
A water balloon toss, volleyball games, cook off, scavenger hunt, donut eating contest, pie eating contest, egg toss, sack race, hula hop contest, dunking tank and bean bag toss were just some of the activities available to participants.
2014 St. John Relay for Life Chair Summer Malone Guidry said the event was a success with more than $24,000 raised on Saturday alone. She said Relay teams have raised more than $75,000 so far this year.
“The community came together to make the event successful and filled with fun,” said Guidry. She added that the tribute slide show and luminary ceremony was, as always, a highlight of the night.
