RESERVE — Within hours of ramming his fiancée’s car and throwing her to the ground a local man was arrested, authorities said.

Deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish’s Sheriff’s Office identified Robert Langley Jr., 38, of Reserve as the suspect and arrested him last week. Langley was booked with domestic abuse battery, domestic abuse aggravated assault, simple kidnapping and simple criminal damage to property.

Deputies began their case after responding to a residence in the 200 block of West 19th Street in Reserve at 10:50 p.m. Feb. 17.

Sgt. Dane Clement said Langley and the 28-year-old female victim lived at the residence.

The victim told deputies she and her fiancé had a verbal confrontation, and Clement said authorities do not know what led to the confrontation.

Sheriff Mike Tregre said the victim left the residence in her car and was followed by the suspect in his pick-up truck.

“When she was traveling on West Airline Highway, he intentionally hit her car with his pick-up truck,” Tregre said.

“When she pulled over and stopped, he stopped. He shattered the driver’s side window, entered her car and demanded she drive back to their residence.”

At the residence, Tregre said the suspect forcefully removed the victim from the vehicle and threw her to the ground.

Clement said it was the victim who was able to call to authorities.

Authorities said emergency medical services treated the victim for superficial cuts on her legs sustained when the driver side window shattered. She refused transportation for additional medical treatment.

Langley was present when authorities arrived at the residence and was arrested just before midnight Feb. 17, Clement said. He was released Feb. 19 after posting a $28,500 bond.
