GARYVILLE — A local woman was arrested after she smashed a “used to be friend” in the face with a beer bottle, authorities said.

Authorities began their investigation when St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance call at 12:30 a.m. Sunday at Kenny’s R&B Club, 403 East Airline Highway in LaPlace.

“Emergency medical services treated the 46-year-old male victim on the scene for lacerations, but he refused transportation for additional medical treatment,” Sheriff Mike Tregre said in a release. “The victim told deputies he was standing at the bar when (Deirdre Fleming) hit him with a beer bottle.”

Tregre said the victim told deputies Fleming, 49, is a “used to be friend,” adding the suspect fled the area before deputies arrived.

Sgt. Dane Clement said the motive and history between the two is part of the criminal patrol’s investigation.

“We don’t normally discuss motive,” he said.

“It’s part of the investigative report, and we hold that for the court case.”

Clement said all evidence was removed prior to deputies arriving at the scene.

Fleming was arrested, without incident, Monday at her home for aggravated battery and released the same day after posting a $10,000 bond.

There is no indication anyone else was involved in the altercation, Clement said.
