CROWLEY — The Riverside Academy Lady Rebels (25-15) traveled to Crowley Thursday to compete with the Notre Dame Lady Pioneers (32-8) in the quarterfinals of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association volleyball playoffs.
Notre Dame defeated the Lady Rebels 3-0 by scores of 25-7, 25-15 and 25-17.
“Notre Dame is a top program with a history of winning state titles, and they have a Division 1 recruit,” Riverside Academy head volleyball coach Margot Frederick said.
Despite the loss, Frederick said she thought the Lady Rebels played well.
“I thought we played well and tried to execute our plan, but they earned points,” Frederick said. “We made errors.”
Frederick said the experience was worth it.
“Playing in the state environment was excellent for our young kids,” Frederick said. “We will be back. This gave them a taste and hopefully a desire to work hard over the next year to return.”
The Lady Rebels volleyball team is comprised of mostly sophomore and freshman players.
“We have a lot to be proud of,” Frederick said.
“Every kid got better this year and a 25-15 season and an elite 8 appearance is no slouch for a team with no seniors and only two juniors.”
The Lady Rebels completed the season strong, outplaying both the St. Charles Catholic Lady Comets and the East St. John Lady Cats in the regular season.
In their last match of the season, sophomore Sydney Joseph had 12 kills. Sophomore Briley Becker totaled nine kills. Junior Maddie Duhon had 13 digs, and sophomore Abby Bourgeois dished out 20 assists.
