NEW ORLEANS — The West St. John Rams (3-7) traveled to New Orleans Thursday to take on the Newman Greenies (7-2) in their last regular season game.

Despite their best effort, the Rams were defeated 33-22 in the last two minutes of the game.

With 1:42 left on the clock and the Rams in possession of the ball, all that was needed was 59 yards and a touchdown for West St. John to pull ahead and close the season with a win.

Newman had other plans and intercepted a Rams’ pass for a last-minute touchdown, bringing the final score to 33-22.

To start the game, the Greenies scored first, but it was quickly followed by a Rams touchdown to bring the score to 7-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Rams were unable to secure the extra point.

With the score 14-6 and 6:32 left in the first half, WSJ’s Jermoine Green found Jabari Walters for a 47-yard touchdown pass. Add to that a two-point conversion and the score was tied 14-14 by halftime.

In the third quarter, the Greenies were able to add to their total with two touchdowns and one field goal, bringing the score to 27-14.

West St. John answered with a touchdown with six minutes left in the game, cutting the Greenies’ lead to 27-22.

“We had our chances,” West St. John assistant football coach Lester Smith said. “We were 22-27 and we let them have a chance to score.”

Rams quarterback Jermoine Green threw for 214 passing yards, two six-yard touchdowns, one 47-yard touchdown and two interceptions.

Green’s touchdown passes went to Jabari and Jamal Walters.

Jabari Walters caught five balls for 111 yards and scored two touchdowns.

West St. John running back Lamore Boudoin finished with 113 rushing yards and 29 receiving yards.

LAPLACE — East St. John (2-8) hosted the Central Lafourche Trojans (6-4) Thursday for its last regular season matchup.

Although the Rams led the scoreboard most of the night, the Trojans squeaked by in the last few minutes of the game to gain a 36-33 victory.

Senior quarterback Marquise Darensbourg started the game off with a five-yard touchdown.

After the Trojans went out on downs, Darensbourg scored again, from the one-yard line, bringing the Rams’ lead to 12-0.

Late in the first quarter, the Trojans scored from the one-yard line to cut the Rams’ lead to 12-7.

Early in the second quarter, Darensbourg was called for intentional grounding in the end zone and the Trojans were awarded a safety.

That safety helped the Trojans close the lead to 12-9 at halftime.

The second half produced back and forth touchdowns by both the Wildcats and the Trojans.

The Wildcats were in the lead until a last-minute Central Lafourche touchdown ended ESJ’s season with a loss.
