DESTREHAN — A 47-year-old Montz man died Wednesday evening in a two-vehicle fatality crash on U.S. 61 in St. Charles Parish.

The crash occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m.

Louisiana State Police investigation indicated a 2009 Yamaha YZFR motorcycle was traveling east on Airline Highway, approaching East Harding Street in St. Charles Parish.

Frederick Bailey III, 47, of Montz, was operating the Yamaha. As the Yamaha was traveling east, a 2011 Chevrolet HHR pulled out of East Harding Street and attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of U.S. 61, Trooper Evan Harrell said.

Bailey laid the motorcycle down as the Chevrolet pulled into the path of the Yamaha, according to Harrell, and Bailey and the motorcycle struck the Chevrolet on the driver’s side.

The Chevrolet was being driven by Cliff Williams, 38, of Destrehan.

Bailey, who was wearing a U.S. D.O.T. helmet, was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. Charles Parish Coroner’s Office, Harrell said.

Williams, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, Harrell said, adding Williams submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement.

Routine toxicology tests are pending for Bailey.

The crash remains under investigation.
