- Sept. 30, 2009: St. Joan of Arc Catholic School eighth graders listen intently to guest speaker Dean Washburn as he describes how he overcame and conquered the stress to his bones and muscles as a Vietnam veteran who experienced agent orange side affects, surviving gun shot wounds to his arms as a policeman and afterward, training for and running several races including the Boston Marathon. Washburn, standing, speaks to the class as his wife, Patricia, listens from the back. Sept. 28, 1989: Georgina Migliore of LaPlace represented the state at the TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) 1989 International Recognition Days in Spokane, Wash., July 20-22. Migliore was chosen as state queen for losing 100 pounds in a year.
