Heidi Garcich and Chelsi Cupit each scored goals on Saturday as Riverside notched its third win of the season, a 3-1 victory over Lusher at Riverside.
It was the Rebels’ second victory over Lusher this season, after winning 2-1 at Lusher last month.
“A lot of the younger girls played a lot,” said Riverside coach Stephen Millet. “We’ve got a bunch of players out injured right now, so it was a good opportunity to see what a lot of girls could do.”
Lusher got on the board in the first half on a Riverside mistake — an own goal gave Lusher it’s lone score.
But Lusher repaid the favor — it also had an own goal, which combined with a Garcich score gave Riverside (3-2-1) a 2-1 halftime lead.
Cupit booted her goal in the second half, giving the Rebels some breathing room.
The defense took over from there. The Rebels controlled the ball in Lusher territory for much of the game, leaving Lusher with little energy to make a second half push.
“I thought we kept it away from them pretty well,” Millet said. “We knew if we could do that, we should be okay.”
